Your getaway on the Ohio River
Shady Rest is a private seasonal campground on the Ohio River where people come to truly settle in. Campers build decks, set up fire pits, and turn their site into a second home for the season. Weekends are social and fun, but always respectful, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the river.
What makes Shady Rest feel like home
Direct boat ramp access
Launch right here and spend the day on the Ohio River. When you’re done, you’re back at your site in minutes, not packing up and driving across town.
Spacious seasonal lots
Most sites have the feel of a small yard, with room to actually live outside. Campers build decks, set up a fire area, hang hammocks, add swings, and some even create a small play space for kids.
Riverfront sites and optional docks
Some sites sit right along the riverfront. If it fits the site and stays reasonable, we’re open to approved dock setups so you can fish, tie up, and enjoy the water the easy way.
Make your site yours
Seasonal camping should feel settled in. We allow reasonable, approved upgrades like decks, roof covers, sheds, and other improvements that help your spot feel like your own place for the season.
Family Atmosphere
Shady Rest has the perfect blend of quiet and social. People gather on decks, enjoy music and campfires, and spend time together, while still respecting quiet hours and neighbors. It’s a place where families and adults alike feel at home.
Winter Storage
Seasonal camping should be simple. Winter storage is available so you don’t have to move your RV and gear far every fall, making spring opening feel easy instead of stressful.
The kind of place you can truly settle into
It’s the kind of place where weekends slow down, neighbors become friends, and the river sets the pace for everything else.
The 'Dinner Run'
One of the best perks here is the easy boat ride to Augusta, KY. You can dock at the public landing and make it a real outing, dinner at The Beehive, a walk around town, then back to your site for a fire.
Bourbon Country
Augusta Distillery is close enough to feel like a weekend tradition. If bourbon is your thing, Buckner’s 13 is the local standout and it’s an easy trip that still keeps you in river-town mode.
White Oak Creek Fishing
We’re right near the White Oak Creek confluence, a spot locals talk about for sauger, hybrid striper, and catfish. A lot of campers fish from their docks or with their kids, because it’s right there when the mood hits.
River Traffic Watching
Sit back at your site and watch the river go by. Barges pass, light changes, and the view never stays the same for long. It’s one of those simple pleasures campers come to love.
Pet Friendly Lanes
Our long, flat gravel lanes make it easy to take a walk around the campground or stretch your dog’s legs. We’re a pet-friendly community, and we keep it that way by sticking to leashes and respecting neighbors.
Community of Boaters
If you boat, you’ll fit right in. Campers look out for each other and enjoying tying up on the river together to enjoy the weekend
